as soon as the operations have ended and he's gotten word that the admin was back in the ship in his office, priam makes haste to schedule a meeting with him. not that the schedule matters, since he has it set literally a few minutes after he's issued them.

there's a few things that give priam and the admin a connection, but what has transpired in littleroot was one of those. the infamy of the higher up of being too invested in it just makes it much more of an urgent matter to attend to.

that, and priam wanted to get his mind off of things.

thoughts have invaded his psyche through the raid, and the only way to get back to his usual composure, another subject must replace the musings in his head to make sure he's not stuck to the negative.

multiple knocks on the door can be heard in quick succession from inside the room before it stops to an impatient tapping of a foot.

There’s practically a mountain range of paperwork piled up on the underboss’ desk. Reports, all of them from November 18th, 2022. One pile for Mount Pyre, one pile for Littleroot, and across the desk, temporarily behind his computer, a pile for 99943 Meteno – he’s not opening that can of worms just yet. Still, why the hell are they still working on analog? His life would be so much easier if all this were digitised and transferred to his computer…

See, it’s important to look into as many accounts as possible to get a clear picture of the true nature of events, since there are things one person may have noticed that others may have missed entirely. This is how Mars views things, and apparently, such a mentality is to be proven right shortly…

”Priam.” It’s with a mild and pleasant smile that he greets priam conrad, familiarity making it so certain formalities are dismissed. A.K.A: he likes Priam enough not to address him by his last name and be a dick. Although it’s also not like he’s particularly welcoming.

Golden eyes fix on Priam, staring at him from where he sits. The Hatterene, on the other hand, stands by the door, silent guardian that watches him from beneath the brim of a particularly fuzzy hat – some would call her smirk unsettling, but Mars doesn’t seem to notice it or care.

priam quickly takes his seat, showing a brusque display that rarely graces the professionalism that an office exudes. the chair leans on one leg for a moment before priam slams it down with his weight.

"mars, mars, mars, mars, mars!" he calls in quick succession. priam manages to bite his tongue for trying to rush, but at least his recovery was quick.

"you know those floaty little things that visited us before?" he asks. "i think they're referred as lake guardians or somethin', but anyways, were all three present during the darkest day?"

priam wasn't there during that said event, but he's up to date with the happenings in the region. he has the perspective of both league and rocket's recount on events, but ultimately, both ended in the same conclusions anyways.

people said there were three of them that paired up with three other big legendaries, but a confirmation was needed before he makes a fool of himself.

priam conrad is indeed quite adept at making a fool of himself, and Mars thinks as much with all of the fondness he has for his favourite overqualified Rocket grunt. However, today, the efficient side of dearest Priam seems to be coming into play, since he actually manages to stop himself from ranting and gets straight to the point.

If Mars kept cookies in his office, he’d give Priam one for doing a good job.

”The Lake Guardians, yes. Or, Lake Trio. Azelf is the one who gave us both prophecies.” To think that over a year has passed since then, and yet, despite all his efforts, he has heard so terribly little about the Guardians since then. Only a couple of encounters here and there. ”They did show up to help during the Darkest Day. I saw them myself.”

He purposely leaves out what Eris Halla had mentioned about Mesprit giving her a mark before disappearing, since it’s inconsequential for now. Still, Mars can’t help but be reminded of the fact that Locke Jamison had also recently mentioned the Guardians to him, asking if he’s had any other encounters with them…

it was still fresh on his head. the exact last moments of their mission were burned in his memories, from dialga's distorting of time to their trip to another dimension. somewhere between that lie mars's interest.

"well, azelf was the one missing." at least mars made it easy for priam to give it a proper name to refer to. 'blue dude' probably wasn't going to cut it. "one went to the, uh, that one boy you brought during the time you organized the meeting with all the charm people. the other one went to, uh, the minor... league... leader..."

priam makes the connections that he couldn't have had before just from speaking statements and spontaneously digesting ideas from spoken sentences. if mars can find someone as obscure as a certain Locke Jamison, then it should be no surprise that she would have also been found by the time the underboss gathered everyone.

only one other person fit the description, age, size and all, from that party.

"she was there with us back then too, huh?"

Disappointing.

While all of the Lake Guardians have a connection to one another that cannot be ignored (a connection known to be capable of achieving incredible things), Mars’ interest lies mainly in Azelf’s fate. What had happened during the Darkest Day still replays in his mind over and over. A regret, perhaps, even if that’s a notion that won’t ever be admitted to by a man who claims to have so little of them.

”The boy would be Hideo Kino. As for the Minor Gym Leader… do you mean Rosmontis Lunae?”

kyle lopez’s Minor League may be in constant rotation, but anyone who affiliates themselves with the League even to that degree is known of by Team Rocket’s top brass. Mars had had his suspicions before, but Priam’s statement that Mesprit left with the girl make the truth all too obvious.

Rosmontis Lunae is Eris Halla.

”I believe you’re right, yes.” Priam had reached the same conclusion on his own, without even knowing of the fact that Mesprit had marked Eris. As per usual, his senses are keen. ”If they left with those kids, though… Where do you think Azelf might be? I kept an eye on Katherine Fairburne on Mount Pyre, and as far as I’m aware, it wasn’t with her.”

Then again, knowing her, Katherine would have probably tried to kill the Being of Willpower if it approached her.

That just leaves Mars and Priam, since all the other people the underboss knows to have been given prophecies by Azelf are either missing or dead.
